The Bombay Blood Group (hh phenotype) is considered one of the rarest blood groups in India.
Most people belong to one of the eight common ABO and Rh blood groups. However, a very small number of people have the Bombay Blood Group, first identified in Mumbai (formerly Bombay) in 1952.
People with the Bombay Blood Group cannot safely receive blood from any ABO blood group, including O-negative. They usually require blood from another Bombay Blood Group donor, making donor registration extremely important.
❤️ Rare blood donors are truly rare heroes. One donation can mean the difference between life and death.
